When it comes to exercising and slimming down, we as people can be hard on ourselves. We freak out over a couple inches and the two pounds we assumed we gained from Aunt Helga’s German chocolate cake over the weekend. So why should we be easy on ourselves when it comes to working out since we’re our biggest critics. There is no 2-dollar bar or shake that instantaneously changes how we feel about ourselves as soon as it’s consumed.
It starts with you, however you first must overcome the small obstacles that currently seem big. Exercising is the key to health, longevity, feeling better about yourself and looking better. Ask yourself, what is standing in the way between you and exercise? After not being a gym member for years, many women, especially older women are terrified about going back to the gym. There’s the anxiety of seeing young, slim, fit women running for an hour on a treadmill before they hit the weights and there you are struggling with the 15-minute warm-up. Then there are those of us who have never spent a day in the gym in our life. However, that’s ok. It’s never too late to try something new. Put yourself in a gym to learn from others. Envying the woman who looks as if she knows how to operate every machine inside the gym is not going to get you anywhere. Instead, change your pessimistic thought pattern to “I can”. Tell yourself how much you believe in yourself repeatedly throughout each day. The only person who can make you feel better about yourself is the one living inside your skin-YOU!
