In today’s modern world, healthy living is by many considered becoming a challenge. We tend to live in a world of too many things to do and too little time to do it in. Add to this the work-stress or strained family relationships that many people experience, not to mention the easy accessibility of fast-food and our cars, and then of course there is pollution and naturally occurring toxins in the environment around us. Yes, indeed, ‘healthy’ living can be a challenge to many of us.
Though I am no expert on the topic of healthy living, from time to time I am asked about my thoughts about what it takes to achieve healthy living. I tend to say that the key to healthy living lies in your very own mind.
Your own mind is a very powerful force in your life. Most people would be familiar with the notion of a ‘mind-body’ connection, in which it is said that your mind exert great power upon your body, or even the environment around you. The English language is filled with terms and expressions like “I was worried sick”, “I was so depressed that I didn’t eat for days”, or “My anxiety got so bad that in the end I couldn’t sleep at night”, all suggesting that the processes of our mind took control of our physical bodies. Without doubt, our thoughts and feelings can indeed make us ill in some way or another.
While most people will acknowledge the power of mind described by the negative effects in the expressions above, many do not realize that the opposite effect can also be achieved by the power of mind. If your mind can make you ill, surely it can also make you well? And this notion is really a key to ‘healthy’ living.
